What Kind of Person Should You Be?
TL;DR Summary: Choose to be the person who embraces humility, self-awareness, and a willingness to learn. Take ownership of your actions, listen thoughtfully, and approach others with empathy. Strive for maturity and openness to growth in all aspects of life. Ready to dive deeper into why being the second person is the way to go? Keep reading below.
I found this list the other day. It’s definitely not someone you want to be.
Don’t Be This Person:
- A constant need to be right. They can’t consider other perspectives or admit they might be wrong. Low self-awareness keeps them stuck.
- Blaming others for everything. They avoid responsibility and shift fault instead of learning and growing.
- Talking more than listening. They dominate conversations, ignore others, and value their own voice over learning something new.
- Refusing to learn. They avoid challenges, dismiss advice, and keep a closed mind while smarter people stay curious.
- Overconfidence without substance. They act like experts without knowledge or experience, exposing their lack of depth.
- Judging others too quickly. Snap assumptions and stereotypes show low empathy and often damage relationships.
Summed up: They are so attached to being right that they shut out other perspectives, making growth and real understanding almost impossible.
Be This Person:
- Open-minded humility
You can change you mind, consider other perspectives, and admit when you are wrong. You have enough self-awareness to keep growing. - Personal responsibility
You own your choices, look at your part in a problem, and try to learn from mistakes instead of dumping blame elsewhere. - Thoughtful listening
You listen to understand, not just to respond. You make space for others and treat conversations as a chance to learn. - Curiosity and willingness to learn
You stay teachable, You advice seriously, and are willing to be challenged if it helps you improve. - Quiet confidence backed by substance
You know what you know, do not fake what you do not know, and let real experience speak for itself. - Fair-minded empathy
You slow down before judging, try to understand context, and give people the benefit of the doubt when possible.
Summed up: They are mature, humble, self-aware, and teachable.
I’m not perfect – I’m not saying that, at all, but don’t you want to be that second person? Isn’t that easier? Doesn’t that make life easier? Like, how do you even get to be the first person? What causes that?
Only God is good.
Jesus answered, “Why do you call me good? Only God is good.”
